Default Blackstone Oil Report - 1st Oil Change (1,279 miles)

I've used Blackstone for years in order to keep track of how "healthy" an engine is as well as determine proper oil change intervals. Here is my first report:

Regards,

Derek

Default This is very cool, I changed mine just now at 2,500 for the first time

And the oil looked like it needed it.

How many quarts are you guys filling? I think I got 9.5 in there.

Default Switched from the factory fill to Motul

Motul has a specific oil that complies with the Audi Oil Requirements TSB and I bought it from LTB Motorsports for $43.50 for each 5 liter jug.

Very informative, thanks for posting. I believe I changed mine right around the same time.

Default For a 502 approved oil, I'd suggest LubroMoly Vollsynthese 5W40

It performs the best of all the 502 oils in the RS4 engine, which has similar wear characteristics to the S5 V8. It can be purchased on line. Thus far, all the Motul oils have failed to show up well in engines like this.

If you want the best of all oils, approved or not, go with Renewable Lubricants Bio-Synthetic 5W40.

Default To determine OCI, you'll need to VOA the oil you use and get TAN/TBN analysis

In addition, you'll find Blackstone under reports fuel dilution. As Reggie says, Dyson Labs does a very nice job of analysis and reporting the data.

Blackstone just does not understand this engine. Silicon in the analysis comes from the Alusil cylinder walls. Aluminum comes from the cylinder walls and the pistons. Iron generally comes from the cam chains. Copper comes from bushings. Manganese comes from trace amounts of fuel additives in your area, and is indicative of high fuel dilution. Based on previous analysis, I expect Cu, Al, and Si to come down quickly, whereas Fe and fuel dilution will stay up there.

Dyson Analysis
