only when a magazine affirms that audi is the best does it become legitimate? i doubt that audi is leaps and bounds above mercedes and bmw, maybe marginally better, i havent seen any german cars that are bulletproof, maybe air-cooled 911's. If you also notice consumer reports ratings, audi had a vast improvement because they were rated around 15th out of automotive brands in quality, markedly lower than other manufacturers. Heck, im guessing you are neglecting to mention the improvements mercedes has made in the redesigned S/CL and C-classes.

All E class.
Each one was worse than the one before.
When I see someone driving around in an old-style round headlight Merc E class I reminisce about how great that car was.
So going by experience I do not believe all surveys.

I like both Audi and BMW. Just that Audis cost more- me thinks its for the AWD that Audi charges for and also to pay for expensive marketing costs.
Audi has to make $$$$ and they do well as VW is filthy rich.
For the record, if I was a billionaire, would be nice to have Lamborghini and R8 in my garage (all VW/Audi owned), a Bugatti (another VW) and a BMW M5 for a daily driver or Audi A8 and 7series BMW.
Just interesting to see the big premium Audi charges.

<Edited> If you look at the individual categories on their website, they do not have any scores for the A6, A8, TT or Q7. The site explicitly says no scores for A6 or A8 for luxury cars. TT and Q7 not included in any of the appropriate categories (convertible >$30K, large SUV).
So making conclusions about an entire marque with scores from only one car line is incredibly disingenuous. That kind of study wouldn't get past a basic stats course. Unfortunately, they do get media coverage and ad exposure.
I thought of "Trust but VERIFY" earlier, but in this case, it's more of this old chestnut: Statistics are numbers looking for an argument.
