Bought 1st Audi, quick question about idle engine

The 2t upon start up idles at about 1200rpm for about 60 seconds to warm up. Then drops down to 750-800. It was like this on my mk6 GTI. I always wait for it to drop before putting it in gear. I noticed in the BMW 2t's on test drives, they do the same, but has a 'ready' indicator marked on the tach, so when it drops to 'ready' you know it's ok to move. Turbos like to run hot.
