I have to agree here. Anyway, there are lots of things that need to be broken in besides the engine--the gearbox, differential, drive train in general. These things don't come out of the factory with perfect tolerances, which is why there is so much engine friction in the first thousand miles. Thrash around at your own risk . . . .

With my A4 all I did was vary the engine speed and never cruise at a consist rpm/speed for longer than 10 min. Varying speed and rpms as well as varying whether the car is under throttle or using engine braking helps. Apparently I have an unusual 2.0T because it does not burn oil. I attribute it to good break in. Don't get me wrong I did not baby it. I still accelerated briskly but never WOT to redline.
