All true, but then don't offer a "performance" model.....?

Default i'd like to point out that Audi is dropping their 'never follow' slogan

so everyone can stop using that stupid and all too easy comparison now, k, thanks.

Default Of course that's how they look at it...and it's working.

Just look at the raves for the S6, S8 and how well they have done in most of the comparos despite being "underpowered". It's one thing to be at 7.5-8.0 seconds 0-60 when the competition is at 6.5. The 6.5 "feels" much faster. But the difference between 6.0 and 5.5 or even 5.0 is, imo, much tougher to notice and besides, most drivers can't handle the extra power anyway. See the M/T comparo to see how the e63 lagged behind the S6 in the road test.

"just fvcking take it as it is."

Are you for real? Please tell me that you are joking?

Default Wouldn't that be my only option? I dont have pull with Audi.

Less caffeine might be in order.

Maybe I'm the only one that sees a problem with offering a "performance" model that is constantly eclipsed in the "performance" line-up.

Audi has MANY benefits over competing models. Performance is NOT one of them.

Regardless, I plan to purchase an S5 anyway.

The RS cars don't seem to be eclipsed by the competition

Default If performance means straight ahead raw speed then you are correct.

Clearly Audi has chosen not to compete to the Nth degree in that department. Instead, it builds an arguably more well rounded vehicle that is easier for the average driver to deal with in spirited driving while providing the best fit/finish/interiors in its class (according to most anyway). That is Audi's niche. Some prefer it, some don't. They opt for the pure raw power (and bragging rights?) that BMW and MB can offer in each class.

Those are also great cars, but tougher for most drivers to drive near their limits or, especially in the case of M5, to use as a daily driver. The great thing about the super sedan competition is that we all benefit from it. We get to choose from an unprecedented menu of incredible vehicles from which to choose. Ain't it grand!
