can I add a half quart of Mobil 1 ?
Got the low oil warning. Can I add a half quart of Mobil 1 synthetic oil until I can get the car serviced? (It is due for service soon.) I read the manual, and it seems that I can do this, but I want to double check.

Yes you can. In fact you should add oil if in fact you are running low. BTW, you may actually need to add a full qt.

My A5 2.0 TFSI has been using Mobil 1 Euro 0w-40 since I got it new. It has 73K miles on it and barely burns any oil. You can definitely top up with Mobil 1, provided you're using the correct Euro 0W40 spec.

My perspective is that I would never use any Mobile 1 oil simply because of the downgrading of their oil from a Group IV oil (which we should always use) to a Group III oil over 10 years ago. When there\s so many good Group IV oils to choose from, why not always have a spare quart/Litre of the good stuff in the trunk with you at all times along with your spare windshield wiper fluid and spare coolant.
Why are you relying on the MMI oil level display when you can get a proper oil dipstick for less then $10 on Ebay or Amazon. The MMI oil level display is only as accurate as the oil level sensor signal whereas an oil dipstick never lies and is always the most accurate.
Good Group IV oils to consider;
Motul
LiquiMoly
Euro Shell
German Castrol
Fuchs
Total
Just to name a few.

Since he's in the US, that's probably unlikely.

Interesting, I used Pentosin (which is listed in your link) the first 2 years with my S5 and at about 8 months of normal use I was getting a low oil level. I switched 3 years ago to Liqui Moly and no issues at all with low oil.
