Default Can you clear the orange blinker on the headlights?

I've seen that quite a few people on this board have the Euro headlight look. I was wondering if everyone bought the 1600 headlights or if there is some way to clear the blinkers without having to purchase those **** expensive headlights.

I think a few tried and said it was too much of a hassle with the way the headlight is designed. Most Audi headlights can be heated in the oven and separated and then rebaked and sealed. I can't remember what it was about these but they're more difficult. Somewhere deep in the archives of this forum there's a write up on it.

The orange part of the US headlight is an integral piece of plastic within the headlight. Unless you plan on baking (why do this on such an expensive part) your headlights open and then breaking the orange side pieces off, you have no other choice but to replace them completely with euro ones. I'm not sure why Audi couldn't just make it an orange bulb like BMW does.

BTW if you want to get the euro headlights, they aren't $1600. Talk to Alex at www.europrice.us, I got mine from him for hundreds less than $1600. Be aware you will get a bulb out warning after installing the euro headlights. This is because euro headlights are wired differently from US ones and the "city" lights which sit behind where the orange (now clear) reflector is don't light up. The common remedy to this is to get the VAG-COM software that lets you hook your notebook up to the car and tweak the programming so it does not require the city lights to be on anymore. VAG-COM isn't cheap either at $350. Why did Audi make it so expensive just to get clear corners, sheesh.

you cannot bake the headlights anymore. the glue has been changed and the lamp will melt before the glue seperates. ecodes are cool untill an LED blows and you have to replace the entire lamp

Default Thanks for the mention...

Pricing was actually just adjusted downwards as well.

$1340.98 pair for the AFS (Adaptive). I know still pricey units, though that is 15% discount from retail pricing currently!

..::Europrice A5, S5 [B8] Parts::..

There is also a set of the standard non-adaptive units on Ebay that are overstock, $849.00 (25% discount!). It appears that almost all S5 folks ended up with adaptive headlights so these have been looking for a new home for quite a bit:

..::Ebay A5, S5 Bi-Xenon Headlights w/ LED::..

If you are interested in units or have any questions never hesitate to email me at: contact@europrice.us

Cheers,

I have adaptive on both of my current cars and couldn't care less if it was on the next one. Definitely an overblown 'feature' that doesn't justify its cost imo.

Default I've been told it doesn't do all that much...

which is noticeable when driving at speed. Well if anyone else feels this way they can fit the non-AFS units with some wiring changes and a bit of coding to save a few hundred dollars.

Cheers,

Default Depends on which headlights you need...

Adaptive or non.
