Are you talking about the "mode" button, or something else?

Is the MMI on ? It has been my experience that the MMI needs to be on for the controls and the display to work. However, the BT will still link and function but not through the MMI if MMI has been turned off.

That mode button etc on the left side is kinda lost to us with cabriolets as it really is for the voice command function which is turned off in the cabriolets. Some people have figured out how to turn it back on with the vag com.

The "mode" button does lots of stuff without voice command. The voice command button, of course, doesn't.

Here's my blog post on how to enable voice command, fwiw. http://sharding.org/blog/2011/02/02/...e-recognition/

I don't know what's wrong here, but the left-hand scroll-wheel and button have nothing to do with voice-control.
SDS is on the right-hand side of the stearing wheel, well,at least in my car
with the left-hand control I can change the radio-station or go through my mp3's when it is playing.

MMI is the screen in the centre of the dash.
the controls are around the gear lever.
normally it is always on.
when you turn it off, while driving, it will come back on, the next time you start the car.
