Default current S5 owners, former S4 drivers

Hello:

I've driven an S4 since Oct '99. It's nearing the 100K mark and I'm starting to look at moving on to a new audi. I'm considering the S5, and I wonder if those of you who previously drove an S4 and now own an S5 could give me your impressions on your transition between the cars?

Thanks!

feels like an updated version of S4 with more tech and style.
Nicer ride. Feels more nimble, lower and wider.
I liked the way it drove more than the RS4. S4 feels square while the S5 feels rectangular. The S4's outward visabilty is better. Less wasted space in the S4, too.

Default if he has been driving his s4 since 1999 as he says that would make his car a very early b5...

In which case the s5 will feel like a completely different car. Over a decades worth of engineering and market changes literally transformed these cars. If he has never driven a b6/b7 s4 its going to be quite a shock thats for sure.

Yes, your correct the S4 is an early B5. It's been a great car! What I'm deciding now is whether to move on to an 09 S5, wait for the next S4 build, or go with an RS4.

Thanks again.

Default It will be interesting to see what the next RS4 and RS5 offer.

If you can stand waiting and enjoy your current car I would hold out. Although, the S5 is phenominal. Anything coming in the future will not leave much to be desired.

Funny how for me and my car purchase, the only cars I really considered were all Audi's. amazing a company has so many competing models. I was about to order an S4, then ordered the S5 over a year ago, then looked into the RS4... S5 with 7,300 miles since October has been perfect.

I have never driven a B5 S4. I was not considering the car against a M3 1993-2001.
I chose a B6 S4 vs a 2004 M3. I still love it. Audi raised the bar in their B6. The S5 raises the bar further. Drive the car. The new S4 should be comparable to the S5 and tuner friendly.

Yes, I've waited this long that a couple years more would be ok. I've been following the blogging on the RS5, and was thinking of putting down a deposit and then waiting a few years to see how things turn out. If the RS5 comes through-great! If not, I'd probably go back to deciding between the S5 v. new build S4.

Default I had an '01 B5 S4 and an 05 B6 S4. You'll love the V8, hate the mileage, love the shifting...

and hate the price.

That's to an '05 S4. Go to an S5? I have no idea. But I will soon.

I would hazard a guess you'll love it. If not just uh.. give it to someone else on this list, I'm rather certain it wouldn't get kicked out of bed for eating crackers.
