Default Deposit Amounts when Ordering New A5

Would anyone be willing to share the amount they placed for the deposit when ordering their 2010MY A5s along with vehicle specs (i.e., Brilliant Black, Prestige, Drive Select, etc. @ $XXX or $X,XXX deposit)? I'm planning on ordering in about 90 days and since I've never ordered a vehicle before, I would like to get a sense of what the typical deposit amount has been for the future owners. Thanks.

I think it all depends on how you negotiate.

I've visited 5 Audi dealers in Bay area.
Here are the initial responses without hassling.
Dealer A: $500 over the invoice, $1000 deposit
Dealer B: MSRP, $1000 deposit
Dealer C: $500 over the invoice, $1000 deposit
Dealer D: 2% over the invoice, $1000 deposit
Dealer E: the invoice, $5000 deposit

Hopefully it helps

My dealer in Oakland happened to order the exact car I was looking for as part of their initial 2010 dealer allocation order. They had ordered it for stock, which meant it was an early order, already built and about to be put on a boat. I currently have no car, so was willing to pay a bit more to secure this in July rather than waiting for a new order to get built. That would have pushed delivery into September.

I agreed to $900 over invoice, and put $5,000 down.

Wow, those are some high deposits. I put $500 down. That amount is customary at the dealers in my area.

Same here,I put down $500 and they had to drive 300 miles to pick up the car at another dealer.

$5,000 is insane.

I've taken $5000 as a deposit. It shows you're serious. Usually we do $1000-$2500 depending on the car. And we refer to it as partial payment. The more oddball the order the larger the money upfront.

I guess it depends on the local market. There are over 20 Audi dealers in the NYC area so I suppose competition somewhat limits their leverage on the deposit amount (at least for a car and configuration that's relatively common).

Mine was $1000. Fully refundable with no questions asked. They never even cashed the check and at closing i ripped it up.
