Default How much should I pay for a buyback 2010 S5?

Hi, I'm new to the forum and I appreciate your help. I'm considering a 2010 S5 3.0 prestige cabriolet with just under 20k miles on it. At 13k miles it was a manufacturer buyback due to "gear box light on" and they replaced the transmission and the mechatronic unit.

The car is gorgeous, deep sea blue pearl, black roof, tuscan brown interior, driver assist package, comfort package, sports rear diff package, 19" tires, and tinted windows. It's a CA car, and has been in AZ for the last 6k miles owned/used by the dealer personally.

They are asking 50k which to me is regular retail, when this car has a lemon law title, which really gives me pause because I feel like I'm taking on a risk - both in its reliability and obviously resale. Our insurance (USAA) will only insure 80% of its value, which they told me was 41,300 (80% of 51,625).

That said, we do plan to drive this into its golden years (we have a 2003 mercedes clk430 that has 140k and a bunch of rust on it). The car also has the balance of the original warranty, so until 50k or 5/2014.

My big question is, what is a fair price for this vehicle? Thank you!!

Way high, you can buy a 2013 for low 60's The dealer wanted to give 40K for my 11K 2011. Sold it for much more and got a 2013

Forget it. Find another car without a history involving a buyback and replaced transmission.

Default Buy NEW

My advice...............BUY NEW !!!
Bite the bullet, order a NEW custom built 2014 (4 model years newer) for a few $$$ more. The 2014's will be in production in 2 short months........go for it.
There's nothing better than ordering EXACTLY what you want and like, and the wait is WELL WORTH it. The deal you're looking at is dismal at best. Go for a NEW 2014.

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice - we just may do that! We've never ordered brand-new and we're finally in a place where we can do that. Just need to pull the trigger spending that much on a car!

Yes, it does seem like asking for trouble. If it was a great deal it still would be of questionable reliability. Thank you for your thoughts.

Remember " It's not what you pay for the car it's what it's worth in a few years" That's your real cost.
I paid cash for my 2011 drove it for two years and sold it for $2,700 less than I paid for it, less tax and tags. Cost of money ( lost interest less taxes, nil)
