I have an A5 with MMI and I plugged a new Nano into the ipod cable that the dealer gave me and I got nothing. Only a "this device is initializing message" that never went away, and no discernible response from the ipod itself when connected. Could the cable be broken? What else could it be? The ipod itself works fine.

You probably got to select AMI input thru the MMI

Could be too old. Only certain gens and models of ipod work

Reset the iPod by holding the Menu and Enter till logo show up
