Default Re: Brouigu1- Soon to be former BMW driver

I am doing the big switch... I have been driving my BMW 3 series since 2000. I do love the BMW and the service and support has been great. But once they changed to the E90 body series I was less then excited. Since I wanted all wheel drive my choice was the A5 or BMW... I think I made the right choice!

My Meteor Grey A5 (S-Line & Premium pkg) is scheduled for delivery sometime in October as far as I know.

Default Chicago - Go SOX!! Put the winters on

just before T-Giving and the summers on right after the Masters in early April. I tried swapping winter/summer tires on the original rims on my 00 S4 for a couple of seasons but the chance of damage and cost of swapping was too much. So purchased a nice set of wheels from TireRack that I used in the summer along with Cooper Zeons and left the Dunlop Sport M2 winter tires on the orginal rims and do the changeover myself.

Default Get a second set of wheels to switch out. I switch mine out in November and back on in April.

I have snows on my original 18" OEM RS6 wheels. While wide i have excellent grip. I recommend highly Dunlop wintersport M3s. I did my tires through Discount Tire and they swap out and check balance etc for free every season. Naperville store Matt is the Audi club friend.

Default 3. get the more narrow tire that fits and you can stand to lose dry performance/looks.

nothing moves easier in the snow than Quattro + true winter tires, the more narrow the better.

if you ever plan to upgrade your brakes to something larger, plan ahead now with the wheel option.

Default I will say in the Chicago snowy mess for three years now with my RS6 i had no grip issues with wide

tires in 6"+ snows. So the full 9" or 8.5 that my OEM 18" wheels are have plenty of grip. So i do think using the A5 18's will work well or replicas without necessary also going skinny. 18s are certainly necessary to protect against the pot holes and destroyed winter roads in Chicago.
