MP3 Player hook-up instead of IPOD help
Has anybody had any luck with any Rhapsody to go players to use with MMI in the B&O upgrade?
I am curious to see if there is any functionality of non IPOD mp3 players and to what extent it's limited

I also attempted non-iPod before but now have a simple 16GB memory key hooked up to the AMI.
A few months ago, I also burned out a 100GB USB hard-drive trying to get it to work. Finally gave up and just use the memory key which is perfect because you can name the directories on the fly and organize easily. I think it's easier than using the iPod, at least when it comes to organzation of files <-> the computer.

Thanks for your input Alan.
So there is a female usb port on the AMI? I am interested in using a Real Networks Rhapsody to Go compatible MP3 player. Is it worth the effort?

I originally tried a Samsung MP3 player and couldn't get it to work. I got an error msg that said
"Unsupported Device Type". I thought that was strange but eventually gave up. So I went with the female USB/AMI plug and really like it. My favorite is being able to arrange the directories with whatever name you want and seeing it on the screen in the same layout.

so hard drive not an option?
What went wrong with the hard drive?
I'm planning on asking for the AMI-USB cable instead of the iPod cable when I pick up my car. I was thinking USB stick, but I've got 40 Gb of music. I saw a portable 80Gb 2.5" USB powered HD at Costco and was wondering if that would work.

Didn't work for me but maybe it's something that can be changed via Vagcom?
My hard-drive seems like it's working still but none of the data is accessible. I'm not sure what went wrong. Maybe there isn't enough power to sufficiently power the USB hard-drives.
The flash drive is perfect though, and with them expanding in capacity so quickly, it wont be long before 16GB is considered small and they are releasing 64 and 128GB flash drives for cheap

How many rpms was that drive? If it was 7200 then I think thats too high for a car connection to handle... Also, you should think about getting a solid state hard drive, from what I hear those work better!

AMI can power USB harddrives, just make sure power requirements are below 800 mA
