Default Musty air coming from vents

About a month ago, I started getting musty air coming out of the vents. This was about when summer air conditioning season started here. When I start the car after it has been parked in the garage overnight (or longer), the first air out of the vent smells really musty. After a little while, it improves somewhat, though I can still smell it.

Last week I took the car in for regular service. They changed the cabin air filter (which apparently was in decent condition), and inspected for rodent infestation (but didn't find any). They also did some kind of evaporator cleaning, though I'm not sure exactly what that entailed. Took the car home, but the next time I drove it, the vent air was still as musty as before.

Then I discovered TSB 2010146/15 which seems to describe this exact problem. It includes a procedure to remedy the problem using some specialized equipment. Got in contact with the service department and mentioned this TSB and tried to find out if they did this exact procedure, or something different. Later they sent me a message back saying that this TSB doesn't apply to my VIN, which didn't make any sense to me, as the TSB says it applies to the A5 for model years 2010-2017 (mine is 2016) and the VIN range is "All". I mentioned that to them, and they said they would look into it again. That was yesterday. I don't expect to hear from them at this point today, or this weekend. For now, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Could be they typed in the wrong number. I've gotten good service there in years past, though my usual service advisor wasn't there this time, so maybe I got stuck with the new guy instead.

Anyway, I am wondering if anyone has gotten the specific procedure done from TSB 2010146/15 and if it worked for you. Or if there is something else that you have tried that worked, let me know.

Default

I have (sort of) figured out why the dealer was saying that this TSB does not apply to my VIN. After a bit of research, I found that TSB 2010146/15 (that's revision 15) was subsequently superseded by revisions 16, 17 and 18. Notably, revision 18 modifies the applicable model years by excluding 2016 and 2017. I've no idea why, though.
