Default Noise driving me crazy. HELP!!!

Hi all,

I have a 2011 A5. Recently it started making a whistling noise at 34mph. It gets louder from 30 to 34 then holds and stops making the noise past 34. I tried going through the gears at 34 and the noise stays the same in second, third and fourth gear. Now, it also makes the whistle when the car slows from 30 to 25 and when the gears down shift, you can hear it go from higher pitch to lower. This doesn't make sense to me since at 34 it holds steady in different gears. Any help would be greatly appreciated as it is driving me insane.

Well, I had a 2009 A5 that had a similar kind of noise, but would only do it when cold (here in ND) and would go away after a few miles. I never did have the dealer look at it, as by the time I would get there, the noise would be gone. To me it sounded like a transmission (TipTronic) noise, but everything always worked fine. Car gone now and replaced by a 2012 S5.

It did start when it got cold. Not sure if it is a coincidence. The noise does not stop though whether I drive for a few miles or over an hour.

I do get more of a hissing noise in cold morning. It seems to come from the passenger side. I tried to turn off the climate control and the radio, but the noise would not go away. when the passenger's seat is occupied the noise never comes on. Does that sound familiar, Eugene?.

try to isolate the noise.
makes noise while driving? push clutch in, or throw it in neutral for a BRIEF period and then leave in neutral and sttop before putting it back into gear. did the noise go away? if so, more than likely drivtrain related.

with car stopped. bring up the rpm slowly. is the noise there? if so, it's engine related.

it may help a service advisor as well to isolate the noise. hope that helps.
