Default obd2 code scanner

hi all

just bought an obd 2 car scanner which is supposed to support my 2002 a6 but the plug in port on the scanner seems smaller on the code reader than the port on the car and dont want to try and force it anyone know why it will not fit?

Any commercially available OBD II scanner will have the standard OBD II plug, which snap-fits into the receptacle under the dash. Make sure that the plug is oriented correctly. It requires a little bit of force to snap in place - if you're having trouble try wiggling it a bit.

That looks like the standard OBD2 connector, which has been on every car sold in the US since 1996. It doesn't matter whether you're using the tester on an Audi, or Chevy, or whatever -the connector on the tester should fit that OK. Note that both plug and connector are 16 pins, and keyed so the plug goes in only one way. If you're still having problems perhaps you can get someone at the auto parts store where you bought it to show how it plugs in.

EDIT - perhaps if you tell us what the make and model of the code reader is we can check whether it is appropriate for US cars.
