Paddle shifters & how to get back to automatic...
The A5 S-line is my first car with paddle shifters. I noticed that I can use them at any time to do a manual shift. But how do I get the transmission back to regular automatic after I have used them? Do I have to move the shifter over to manual and back again or is there some other way?
(Searched but didn't see anything relevant. Just lots of posts making me wish the car had DSG, too...)
Thanks,
muski

If its anything like the S4, it will go back on its own...
after about 10 seconds of normal driving or when you come to a stop. Will stay in manual mode longer if you are driving in "S".

I've found it returns to D after coming to a complete stop. The D-M-D thing with the shifter works
too, though. I haven't found it goes back to D after not touching the paddles for a while while still moving. Will experiment later.

On the S5 it goes back to D automatically after a few seconds if you resume "normal" driving
But if you downshift and are reving hard, it will tend to stay in manual mode for longer.

You RTFM and tell me where it is documented...
Of course I have already RTFM -- I couldn't find it. It's not documented on p146 & 147 , 2009 A5 doc -- manual shift mode and steering wheel with tiptronic. The whole section is pretty useless (as is most of the manual, which I pretty much read cover to cover the first night I had the car).
Perhaps you can RTFM yourself and tell me where the revert back to auto feature after 30 seconds is documented. I'd be curious to see what it says.
