thinking about painting my S5 either satin or matte black. Was wondering if anyone had any experience with it??? I also heard you could get a vinyl wrap for it which is much cheaper than painting and also reversible...
any feedback on maintaining a satin/matte black painted car and/or vinyl wrapped car would be appreciated! Thanks!

No experience, but here is an article/pics to get you an idea of factory matte black paint (more pics at link):

From what I've read, "matte" is easier to keep clean...can't speak from experience though.

^ or better still don't ruin a classy car with a matte paint or wrap job. Leave matte black to Batman.

FWIW, I recall a piece on Top Gear where the discussed a factory matte-finish from either BMW or M-B that despite its extra cost, was actually harder to maintain, noting it's susceptibility to permanent staining by bird droppings and the like.
Aesthetics aside, I would consider the "longevity" from a trendiness perspective...in how many years will your car be looked at with a "yeah, I remember when THAT was popular" attitude. Of course, you might have sold it by then.
Hey, it's your ride, do what you like...just not so sure it'll be easier to maintain (unless, of course, that matte black finish is Teflon)....

There are a number of special requirements for maintenance of the limited edition matte finishes that BMW offers for the M3. I remember reading that the car cannot be waxed, cannot be taken to a car wash, among other things.

hmm.. thanks guys, i'll think on it some more...
Advantage of the wrap is, you can take it off with no damage to the car when you're tired of it, and does costs alot, alot less. I think I might explore that option...
I think the whole matte/satin black is one of those either you love it or hate it.
Also thinking of painting the stock rims in gunmetal...

I was going to get my rx8 wrapped in Flat black and I went to have it done and they found one small dent and they wouldn't wrap it. I got the dent fixed and have never went back to get it done since I started gutting my interior for the track this year. It would of been a lot cheaper than having the car sprayed and was less of a hassle if I ever changed my mind.
