...when you signal to turn, is it normal for the strip on the side that is signaling to go off? I noticed that when KensA5 (a/k/a LuvMyA5) was following me on the highway today...

(yes, I actually did reach back with one hand with my heavy digital SLR to snap this pic)
I did not catch the light thing in the pic, but when he was signaling to shift into the left lane behind me, his left LED strip would go dark while the turn signal was active, but then come on when the turn signal was done.
Normal???
Oh, and Ken, it was very nice meeting you. Congrats on the new ride, and glad the voice dialing thing worked!!! Now just record some voice tags to add to the bluetooth fun!!!

...but it looked odd with the LEDs on the other side not flashing being much brighter than the faint orange signal bulb. Hmmm...I hope nobody ever gets confused about that!!!

...but now I am wondering if there is a way to disable the LED-off feature when signaling.
Thoughts??? Would this be a bad idea for "safety" reasons? Do the LEDs overpower the signal bulbs that much so it would be impossible to see the turn indicator???
Any of the local A5/S5 crew want to experiment with the VAG COM later this week???

This has indeed been discussed, but needs to be kept alive as an issue in case there is indeed a VAG COM type (or other) workaround. I'm sure everyone would GREATLY appreciate you guys looking into it!
Just seems plain goofy! Can't be a serious safety issue since it doesn't happen in European models, though I can somewhat understand the reasoning.

... are engaged, but *only* when in daytime running light mode, and on the side of the car with the indicator on. I suppose this is because the bright LEDs overpower the brightness of the turn signals. I'm sure it's something that can be VAG-COMmed to not occur.
