Yes, the RS5 and the M3 are a good match-up. I'm looking at a Car and Driver comparison test as I type this and the RS5 is just a tenth of a second behind the M3 in the quarter mile (12.5 vs 12.4) so it's basically a driver's race.
The S5 just doesn't have the stuff to match up with those cars! But that's okay because it's an excellent car in every regard. Just don't drag race it against similar cars with 400+ HP.

That's a great video...thanks for posting the link. I love how the Audi's quattro keeps the car composed on the faster turns, while the BMW is forced to drift just to keep up. It does seem like the BMW made up some of the deficit on the straights though. Either way, those two cars look very evenly matched.

Did I hear them say that the RS5 had better composer in the corners than the M3, well that's a turn up for the books because in the past that has always been BMW's joker card against Audi. For the Audi to still make the following M3 driver have to work hard to stay in touch just shows how impressive the abilities of the RS5 are because everyone knows how much easier it is to follow rather than lead.

The M3 E46 is comparable to the S5 speed-wise. The M3 E92 (which the OP is talking about) is quite a bit faster and isn't really comparable to the S5 speed-wise. The last year the M3 E46 was made was 2007 and the OP has a 2008 S5, so comparing the S5 and M3 E46 isn't crazy, but the S5 and E92 is, which makes some sense given that a new M3 costs more. As mentioned above, the modern comparison is the S5 and 335i.
