Default Raced the new S4 today, on the meadowbrook parkway

I have an 08 S5 with AWE catback and DP's. Guy was rolling in a black s4 with the supercharged V6. We slowed down side by side, I was in 3rd at about 80 mph, and we stepped on it. I lost not by much, but he did pull away a bit. We couldn't go at it long because of traffic, but we did try about 3 runs. He did hit the gas a second before me, so maybe that was it. I'm not sure if maybe he was an auto, and maybe it dropped him into second or something. I thought the s5 would have been faster. Thoughts????

Default Just My opinion.. no flames

I think the v6T is underrated from the factory (as APR stock dyno stated the same), so for an engine that is lighter with more Torque and HP as rated from the factory, i would think it is inline with what you experienced. it is on par or faster than the V8.

the S4 has the DSG, DSG is always faster than the tip and manual. I hope the S5 gets the S4 engine so I can play with the godlike DSG.

It should be actually especially at high way speeds, very strange could be the fact that he hit the gas first, it would make a difference because the S5 isn't simply going to roast the S4, but should pull away at high way speed, how fast did you guys get up 2, I would certainly expect the S5 to pull on it.

Also, the weight difference between the 2 engines is actually pretty negilible they almost weigh the same, because of the extra plumbing and supercharger itself.

in my opinion S5 and S4 are matched as far as performance goes, stating that S4 V6T with or without DSG is faster than the V8 S5 is such a wrong statement.

Default how fast

I think, actually I know he hit the gas first, so that probably had a lot to do with it. Also we didn't get to go too fast, because it was a Sunday, and lots of cars were on the road. I feel like the S5 should pull away from the S4 as well, that's why I was kinda shocked.

The S5 is not going to pull away from the S4.

S4's are underrated in power, and will pull the 5. DSG S4's have been clocked at 13.0 in the 1/4. R & T clocked a 6mt S4 at 12.9.

Regardless, they're both great cars.
