The front is ez, you just unscrew the nuts/bolts (two) holding them on to the motor bracket and the frame bracket, remove the mount, replace. You may have to pry the motor a little but they slip in easily on the 6s and 8s.
The side mounts on the 6s and 8s are hydraulic with an electrical connector that powers a solenoid(?) that changes a valve that alters the resonant frequency of the mount, quieting down vibrations at different rams(?).
so you have to unplug the connector at the hydraulic mount, unbolt the nuts holding the mount to the engine and frame brackets, and pry or lift the engine enough to get the mount out. On my S6 and other 4.2 cars I have to drop the belly pan but I don't recall having to put the front in service position.
If you do decide to go to service position and your car has more than 140,000 miles on it, I highly recommend you remove the alternator and replace the voltage regulator in order to replace the alternator slip ring brushes. Some people may be able to just replace the brushes but on my 2K4.2 the brushes were spot welded (big current load) pigtails rather than bushed/soldered. The VR cost about $100 several years ago, probably more now. The brushes are less than $20 but again, not easy to change.
