Pull codes to se what is wrong, then have it fixed. Resetting an engine light with a problem will only mean you get the light again.

I should have mentioned that I did have the local parts place pull the codes.

There were 2 - one was there was a slight leak in the fuel evaporator system, the other mentioned the Tire Pressure Monitoring system.

Unfortunately, I did not get the code #'s when they told me about the results.

Originally, when the CEL came on, I did replace the fuel cap, and when the Low Tire Pressure Indicator showed on the dash, I did top up the tires (including the spare) and reset the dashboard computer, but the CEL remains.

The car is up for New York State inspection this month and I wanted to clear the code and drive it for a few days to clear the code history.

I've seen on line there are 2 ways to clear the code, the first being removing the negative battery cable for 15 minutes and the second - removing the 40 AMP Terminal 15 Engine fuse while the car is running.

Can anyone let me know which is the better solution or if there is another way to clear the CEL (without buying a code reader).

I love the car - have had it for about 7 years and have only had to do maintenance items.

TIA

The best way is to find someone who will do it for you with Ross Tech VCDS.
The easiest way however, if you are an iPhone user is to get a Carista sender and subscribe.
With three Audis in the garage, and doing my own oil changes and much of my own maintenance, I keep an annual subscription along with having VCDS too.
