When I turn the steering wheel on my 2013 RS5, it makes a rubbing noise from inside the steering wheel. Anybody else have this problem? From web searches, I suspect it might be the slip ring, but I haven't seen anybody post a solid confirmation or known solution. I could not find a TSB on this issue.
The sound is like rubbing two pieces of canvas together. It happens only when I am actually moving the wheel. It's definitely coming from inside the steering wheel, not from the engine or suspension. The depends on how fast I am turning the wheel. (When I turn the wheel faster, the pitch gets higher.) It sounds similar to this:

Isn't your car still under warranty? Get the dealer to fix it.
If out of warranty, just pull the steering wheel and chances are it's the trim.
BTW, I don't think there's a slip ring…it's a clock spring where the cable winds and unwinds. Indeed, the clock spring may be the problem and simply need lubing. You could try a spray dry lube in to the side of the wheel/column.

With the multiple drive select options this could be a sign to a bigger problem, do not just try to lube it to mask the issue, let your dealer take a look.
