it was 49k and yes that included gas guzzler tax. it was 49 + doc fee + dealer prep fee or something + TTL. after TTL it was like 53k total.

oh and the car was already tinted. i'll post some pics when the car is cleaner; it's been raining a lot!

oh i got it at audi west houston.

i actually can't tell if it has gas guzzler tax.

it says:

selling price: 54165
discount: 5905
adjusted price: 48260
Phantom FP: 259
Audi care: 740 (the intially would tell me 49k w/o audi care and i negotiated some more to get it as 49k w/audicare)
total purchase: 49259.00
dealer doc: 179
dealer service: 497
tax: 3063.50
non tax fees: 243.36
net price: 53241.86

so it looks like either that 48260 includes gas guzzler tax or they didn't charge me for it; it is the 6 speed manual.

according to prices on ebay motors, i can buy a very slightly used s5 for ~50k with full warranty. or i can buy a lower equipped s5 new from dealer for prob 56k.

i test drove a '10 a5 2.0 today and dealer said they will have stasis ECU upgrade in dec. they tell me the a5 2.0 is about 300 lbs lighter than s5 and should get close to the performance of s5 with ECU upgrade and likely cost me 10k less. i would order a5 with s-line upgrades and almost all upgrades.

so if anyone can offer me advice that would be great! this will be my first audi to own.

a couple of thoughts i have:

1. if the performance b/w chipped a5 and s5 is .5 seconds or so 0-60 then its worth it to me to go with a5.
2. if price difference b/w fully loaded a5/chipped a5 is within 4-5k s5 then possibly it's not worth it to go with a5.
3. the dealer says ecu upgrade for a5 2.0 would bring it to 260 hp and 300 torque which i don't believe according to stasis website for a4.

comments please!
first of all, my comments all are with respect... I don't mean no disrespect...

You HAVE TO BE KIDDING.... V4 2.0 TURBO vs. 4.2 V8????????????

there is no questions... take the S5... V8.... the 2.0 is a 211 hp... but how much power does it ge to the wheels... i have a 3.2 v6... i get 265 hp on the engine... but the power transfer to the wheels is only 220 hp... confirmed by Audi and Stasis...

i have the quad tip exhaust... Stasis claims only 5 hp increase.... which it is nothing.

Don't chip a car... just get the V8

i've decided that i don't think the s5 and it's price premium is worth it to me. i am lazy and don't want to go to gas station all the time; my friend with 07 s4 w/same engine says that he fills up ALL the time. plus where i live, i won't get to take advantage of big v8 engine's performance that much.

so i've decided on a5 but 2.0 or 3.2??

does anyone have a 2.0 with stasis ECU upgrade yet? i need to call them tomorrow to find info, but from what their website says, it looks like i can bring the 2.0 engine up to 250 HP easily with ECU and exhaust. it looks like the ECU will bring torque over that of the 3.2L also. plus i have room for future performance gains if i wish.

so i imagine 2.0 with stasis upgrade will beat 3.2L? does this sound correct?

also, the s-line trim offers same suspension as S5 rt? a lighter car with tight suspension and higher torque looks like what i am looking for.
again... You HAVE TO BE KIDDING...

do you want a good looking car and save $5k or more... then get A5 2.0......

do you want a good solid car.. good looking... solid performance.... get 3.2.... no questions asked... simple...

my 3.2 is so fast on the freeway... I am impressed by it.... I can only 100 miles per hour... how fast can you really go??????????

I have the Stasis quad tip exhaust... the engineers tell me that I can only expect 5mph in a best day conditions... don't expect more....

ECU upgrade? You can only get 30-40hp.... added to 211 hp... that's 251hp in the engine.. but what's the real horspepower transfer to the wheels... if my 3.2 get 265 to the engine... then it gets 220hp to the wheels... common sense, tells me... 2.0 with 251 hp will get me about 200hp to the wheels.....

In a nutshell... this my 2 cents... get the S5... it's just pure power.... 354hp......since you are so concerned about the horsepower.......

A 2.0T vs an S5 is almost an apples vs oranges comparison.

There is absolutely no question that the S5 will be faster than the 2.0T even with an ECU upgrade. A chip may increase the peak torque at the low end to the ballpark of the S5 (~300 lb-ft) but as with any forced-induction engine torque will eventually drop off leading to a max HP that's still may under the S5. So a 2.0T may keep up off the line for a bit, but the S5 will absolutely kill it in the end.

The real question for you is what's more important - more power and having one of the best-sounding engines on the road, or more-than-adequate power and much better gas mileage (but without the sound or smoothness of the S5).

The two engines also drive very differently. The 4.2 has a heavy flywheel that means it takes a bit more effort to get going (at least until you're used to it) but really flies once it's developed some momentum. The 2.0T is the exact opposite - aside from the slightest hint of turbo lag, it gets going really quick but doesn't offer much (if any) additional power over ~4500 RPM.

Even with a chip and an exhaust the 2.0T won't win on the track vs the S5. But for a lot of people it's more than enough.

I considered all three engines available in the A5/S5 and went with the 2.0T, and I haven't been disappointed. In the end it came down to my needs - I love spirited driving but I also drive 80 miles a day for my commute (sometimes over 100). I didn't want to have to fill up every other day and so far the 2.0T has fully met my expectations.

I wonder when there will be someone posting something nice about their own A5/S5, someone greatful with what they got. I think should just have 2 engines available for the A5. It would definitely avoid decision making.
