Default S5 Cab pricing question

Hello everyone, I'm new here. I hope I'm not violating any written or unwritten rules here, but I have some questions regarding pricing. We just looked at a 2010 S5 Cab demo today with just under 4,000 miles. It's pretty much exactly what we want and the dealer offered it at $4,000 under MSRP. However, that's only about $1,000 under the pricing we've seen when using the American Express Zag Auto purchasing program. We haven't contacted any dealers in the Amex program to make sure they will honor the deal yet, but I'm hopeful they will. Sorry this is so long, but the bottom line question is: how much is a reasonable discount for a car with 4,000 miles on it? The dealer we are working with hasn't heard of the Amex program - should we just go elsewhere and get new?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Not a good deal. If I'm buying used I'm not paying anywhere near MSRP

Thanks - that's our thinking. We were thinking about countering with another $4k off. Reasonable? Should we try for lower? They don't seem willing to budge right now, but you never know.

Issue is how long do you want to wait. Orders for S5 Cabs are taking 4-5 months out at this point. For the extra couple of $K you are driving it right out.

If you look at inventory of 2010 and 2011 Cab S5 you will find a number of them. Additionally, it's getting close to winter when the demand for Cabs will die. We're talking about an expensive car and in this economy it may not sell so fast. If it's me, I make a final offer and walk away and see if they come back. I think they will. They don't want this sitting on their lot until spring

If they don't then I would cut the best deal on a new one with no miles.

i got a call a few days ago from my local audi dealer. he told me audi was offering $4000 a new 2010 a5 cab to clear out the remaining 2010s. might get the same deal where you are.

just keep that in mind when it comes to trade-in time on your next car. 10's are now one model year old, and the trade in value will reflect that....

audi doesn't give any money to dealer's for demo-ing a car. they own the 4000 mile car for the same as they owned it for when it was new (a little more actually because they've been paying floor-plan on it for a while now). there's incentive money, i think, for 2010 s5 cab that is close to 2000. I think essentially they are going 2000 below their invoice plus incentive money.

seems pretty decent. i doubt they have another 4k to play with. that is just silly.

there is by no means a plethora of s5 cabs out there. i haven't done a search yet, but our dealership hasn't had one in months.

look at it this way, you're getting the car for about 5500 less than you could have bought it a year ago.

Trust me, there are not a lot of 2011 Cabs sitting in anyone's inventory, I've looked. As for 2010s a few are coming back as they were lightly driven and there are some deals.

If you are looking for a deal, go with a 2010.
If you are looking for a custom car, prepared to wait, go with a 2011.

My 2011 is due end of the month, and I can't wait. Ordered in early July!

Truth is, Audi is not making that many S5 cabriolets and if you want a car to your specifications, the wait is ~3 months unless your dealer happens to have one on allocation and still have the time to make a change order.

With that said, the differences between MSRP and invoice is ~$4K and IMO, unless you can get a supplier's discount, $2K to $1K above invoice for a 2011 car is a fairly good deal. But for a 2010 car, I would expect to pay less than invoice, even if it was a demo and not used.

It is really a great car and good luck with your negotiation and finding a car you want.
