Ok people listen< this is comeing from someone who has gone from an RS6 to an RS4 to an S5, power wise the RS6 was obviously quick as was the 4, but th S5 is that much more enjoyable ,can,t put my finger on it but the drivetrain, body feel much more in tune with whole car< its just as quick, has more torqe, handles better, if it came with the420 hp engine? good night, plus it is cheaper? I for one am willing to spend the extra cash on the ECU upgrade plus suspension to make it more of what it is ( a remarkable car for all it has to work with) THANKS

I do agree with what you are saying though. when i drove the car at infineon i was grinning. If you speak to the guys who work there and ask them about the cars they will tell you they love the s5, however, imo its no rs4. The rs4 was a monster around the track.

I drove a stock S5 around CA Speedway, then STaSIS's car on the backroads of Sonoma... Wow. Turns an already great car into a world-class car.

The old B6/B7 S4 and B7 RS4 were, no matter which way you looked at it, the old A4 with a V8 shoehorned into the engine compartment a few years later. While great cars without a doubt, they weren't designed from the ground up with that V8 up front. The S5 was developed, from day one, along side the A5 so that the S5 was contemplated when the car was but a sketch on a drawing board. That, in my opinion, makes the difference. It feels natural, rather than forced.

motor in front of the axles in the B7. Changing the power steering/drive line set up makes more of a different on the V8 then the 4 banger.

The economy and fuel prices (domestically and abroad) have changed a lot from the day the development of the S5 started to the day the product rolled out. If there is a change, it is accounting for that. But, still should not be an issue because the car is designed to perform and it is easier to deal with reduced weight (i.e., V6 instead of V8) than to increase weight (e.g., taking a B6/B7 body designed for 1.8T's and plugging in a 4.2 V8).
As for the v10, I am not sure we will be seeing that, but even if we do, it isn't that big of a change. Much like going from a V8 to a turbo V6, it's not like the old days of taking a platform designed for mostly small displacement engines and plugging in a heavy V8.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the B8 platform has been created so that it will carry a heavy load up front in a more balanced way with a smaller front overhang. The B7 platform was always front heavy in V8 (and even 3.0 and 3.2 V6) form.
