Default S5 Winter tires and wheels

I wanted to see if there are any recommendations for winter tires and wheels. I am thinking 18" wheel and tire package.

Anyone having a used set that wants to sell?

I run a set of dedicated 18" wheels & tires in the winter:

(Not for sale; sorry!)

Search Tirerack.com

I bought a set of 18" wheels for my S5 last November, equipped with Dunlop Winter Sport tires. They were excellent in the Chicagoland snow last year.

I'll need a set for Tahoe trips this winter. Is there any reason to go with the Audi winter wheel and tire packages over something from tirerack? Guessing Audi is more expensive also, but "approved".

Also, anyone swap your own wheels at home with a jack and torque bar? I'm sure Audi would frown upon it, but there's no way I'm going to pay them to swap mine each time I want to go to the mountains (much less try to fir 4 wheels in an A5 and go to the dealer). In the bay area, I'll want my sport tires year round aside from those weekend trips.

I could swear I saw an ad on Achtuning for 17 and 18" wheels for $500-600-set some time ago. They were MB styles but some looked pretty good and $5-600 for Hartmann quality is a steal.
I guess you could call Hartmann or Achtuning to check it out

I have the 19inch also and this will be my first winter. Am in Minneapolis. Should I buy a dedicated 18inch tires and wheels or just buy 19inch winter tires and put them on the Audi 19inch wheels??

You could do that, but during the winter the road conditions are bad and the number of potholes increases that could damage your wheels. Also removing the tire from the wheel could scratch the wheel. But I think it is a more economical approach.

Any older A5/S5 Owners have any input on Winter driving with the 19" Summer tires?
is it really as bad as they say?
Winter/Snow tires are a Must if we have the Summer tires?
I live in NYC

thanks!

No experience in winter yet with my new S5. But I have 7 winters experience in S4's. I live in Utah, my house is at 5600 feet up a steep hill. No way can I get home on summer tires with snow on the road. Even on flat roads with snow you have very little control on summer tires. It is not just the tread but the compound, which is not made for cold weather. Buy real snow tires if you plan on driving in snow. Quattro and 4 snow tires is unbeatable and far superior to several sport utilities I have driven in snow. You drive on summer tires at your peril.
