Seat Belt 'Beep' driving me nuts!

You will need a VAG-COM cable and disable it. Here's link to an earlier post with VAG-COM code tweaking.

I believe on seatbelts, but not when I'm pulling the car out to my driveway for a wash, or to the convenience store 2 mins away in 40kmh neighborhood. I'd bike it, but it's cold right now.

29 years ago this month, on my 25 th birthday , I was driving through a quiet intersection 4 blocks from my apt when a nurse, late for work , missed a red light and slammed into my car at full speed just ahead of my door on the drivers side . The entire front of my Scirocco broke away ahead of the windshield , and my car spun around several times w/o flipping over . I went for a wild ride but emerged with just a bad bump on the side of my head and some torso bruises from the belts holding me in place . Unbelted , I suspect I would have been ejected through the side or front glass.

I'm in favor of seatbelts, but this is a particularly meaningless statistic to support using them. Since most vehicle trips involve "just a few miles," then of course most accidents will take place during short trips!

And since every trip of any length away from your home includes passage through those few surrounding miles the odds are obviously much higher that any accident you are in will take place close to home, no matter how far you are traveling.
