Default some stupid questions for the modding experts...

1. If I change wheels and tires, can I go back and change the brakes in the future?
[I'm hoping to wear the factory set out to buy me some time before I do that upgrade]

2. Is it possible to get magnetic suspension?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MagneRide
Or does that system have to be integrated into the cars computer?
I'll guess that this is probably an impossible mod, but would like to hear your thoughts.

3. If mangetic ride is impossible what coilovers do y'all suggest?
I'm seriously considering this because roads are so bad here [NYC/NNJ] that the roads actually DESTROY cars. And I'm hoping that an upgraded suspension might reduce stress on the car overall???? Does that make sense or is that BS?

Default Audi Drive Select

I can't help but think that the Audi Drive Select system can be connected to Delphi's magnetic system.

Default AFAIK the drive select shocks are NOT the magnetic system used on the TT.

The Drive Select system uses a computer controlled variably valved system unlike the TT magnetic system.

I have the feeling it would be nearly impossible or at the very least cost prohibitive to retrofit.

Also if you are getting an '09 with Drive Select why would you even contemplate changing it out?

Default You can purchase brakes later if you choose. The factory brakes are generally more bulkier

than the aftermarket BBK's. The aftermarket designs enough clearance for them to fit under the stock 19" wheels. My brakes were installed after already having wheels. You shouldn't have any issues.

Since magnetic ride is unfortunately not an option on the A5/S5 unlike the TT, not sure what it would take to retrofit. That is an interesting upgrade, but I wonder if Drive Select will make it unecessary. Possibly it will be a feature of the upcoming RS5?

Default A3

Audi is offering Magnetic ride on the A3.
THE A3!
The baby Audi [no offense to A3 owners]
It's clear Magnetic ride is coming to many car lines of Audi's.

I guess we missed it like we missed S-tronic.
But I IMAGINE that there's already some interface built into Audi Drive Select.

On the R8 for example Audi Drive Select comes with and works with the magnetic suspension.

So, maybe it is possible.

Default Magnetic ride...

would enhance all aspects of Audi Drive Select. Not compete with it.

at 2:59 the choices he is making between comfort and sport are I believe in the Audi Drive Select.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkarCTMjdgY</a

Default ceramic breaks

it's my understanding that ceramic brakes only cost a bit more than replacing brakes when they are finally worn down.
Maybe this only holds true for the pads and not the whole system.
At any rate I think that's when I'm going to change out the brakes. First break maintenance.

Default That's not Drive Select. Just suspension firmness setting.

Drive Select isn't available in the R8. And magnetic ride isn't available in the A5/S5.

Default are the two...

mutually exclusive?
I would venture to guess we'll see audi drive select with magnetic suspension in 1-2 model years.

Default Yes, as far as the suspension pieces goes.

I'd suppose moving forward they could incorporate the Drive Select steering and shifting with magnetic ride. However it is far more likely the magnetic suspension was a stop-gap until the Drive Select is put into all the models.

Or perhaps magnetic will remain on the R8 and TT, but everythgin else will get the standard Drive Select setup.
