Stupid VAG-COM usage question
Thanks to Boston and FinallyS5 for their work...I think I am going to use VAG to stop the seat belt chime and for the Voice Command. Before I make the plunge and buy BAG I wanted to know how/where do I hook up my laptop to the S5. It looks like it is USB to the PC, but not sure if I need a specific cable/dongle to connect to the car.

This is where you should start. Call them up and make sure you are ordering the .......

Unfortunately Ross Tech is closed for the holidays...
so I gather that you need to buy the Ross Tech software and their USB to the car cable, correct?
Where does it connect in the car?

there is always a cheaper something on ebay
but you usually get what you pay for, and in this case they often don't contain all the features that the ross tech cables do, and they lack the support as well.

I would recommend the genuine VAG COM cable...
It is not only the functionality, but the customer support from the folks at Ross Tech (who also cruise the VAG COM forum here on AudiWorld).
It comes with a "dongle" license, which means as long as you have the cable, you can use any laptop with the downloaded (free) software.
Of course, there are only so many things you can do with your car, and perhaps for now you can see if someone local to you owns a VAG COM cable and is willing to help you out. Check you regional forum for someone close by. Must be the HEX- version of the cable to talk to your car. KEY- version will not work.
