Interesting, the auto A5 3.2 is rated almost the same as an auto A4 2.0TQ. (2.0T gets 1 mpg better city.)

Default It's also a matter of perspective.

Some peoeple feel 1 mpg difference is a lot others feel it's nothing when you are buying a $50k+ car.

If you remove hybrids you can see that city range for almost all cars runs from about 8 mpg for a Murcielago to 29 mpg for a Yaris. So there is only a 21 mpg range for almost all cars.

To me that means 2 mpg difference in the city is pretty significant.

Another way to look at it would be if the S5 could manage just 2 mpg better city and highway it would no longer be subject to the gas guzzler tax.

Why? The current A4 3.2Q is 15/25 (manual) and 17/25 (auto)

Default Good point, i am used to my two A4s with the 1.8t: B6 man fwd: 25/33, B5q man: 25/30

I am always amazed at the mileage I get with my A4s considering both of them are chipped.

Default Even there the EPA ratings are 20/29 for the B6 and 19/26 for the B5.

You appear to personally get stellar city mileage and above average highway mileage.

Based on your driving style it looks like you'd manage 20/31 in an A5 3.2 manual.

Keep in mind I'm quoting the much more accurate EPA 2008 figures.
