So I have been searching on how to update my newly acquired 2012 A5 Cabriolet MMI firmware and maps.
There are no downloads available from myaudi.
I called and was told the dealership has to install the updates.
I have 2 SD card slots where I could upload some downloaded content.
I see on wikipedia Multi Media Interface page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi_Media_Interface
that the software version number indicates I have MMI 3G High.
Software Version: HNav_US_P0118_D1
Nav Database Version: 8R0060884AD NAR 5.5.5
(5.5.5=2012 Factory Installed Apps)
It appears I can update the firmware to HNav_US_K0133_3_D1
but where do I get this download? and I need a pin to activate it it seems...
Also how do I know what version of maps can I update to?
I'm wondering if there is a way to replace the entire unit with something else or maybe
I should just try Amazon Echo Auto with my phone's GPS aps to announce directions over the car speakers and forget about using it.
I love the built in GPS but the maps are so old it thinks I am driving where there are no streets!
Not being able to update the software is really irking me.
Anyone see any IoT (internet of things) projects with these older cars / 2012 A5 - MMI 3G High?
Thanks in advance.

It is possible. I looked into this a year ago for may 2010 A5, but ended up not doing it, as I never use the navigation anyway.
I lost the references, but just search on this on the internet, and you can find you tube videos, and links to download the SW.
