The ratio depends on the current speed and what the ECU thinks should happen, so you have no direct control over the steering angle. You have to wait for feedback of how much it turned and try again. Too late by then.
While I would agree with you on the inability to second guess the software (I really hate the "learning" capability of the automatic transmission), the variable steering is almost seamless.

Drive it round some canyon roads, and you'll actually appreciate it in the changing radii, esp for 180 switchbacks. Not perfect, but much better than any previous version.

Not many people slide their cars on the road

Sure they do. Right into others cars and trees and ditches, all winter long... I go out driving every snow storm for fun LOL.

*sigh* lack of car control is bad whether it's driver induced or car induced or both.

All I know is I wish that I could *tighten* up the steering feel on my 08 S5. It's like it was designed so my grandmother could steer with one hand. I much prefer the feedback and connected feel of my m3. And please don't chime in with the fanboi whining - I love everything else about the S5.

I agree about the overly light steering. Although I have never been able to drive a car with ADS (since so few people get it and thus few dealers stock ADS cars) I have heard that the Dynamic steering mode really does tighten up the steering to be a little closer to BMW.
