the engine never learns to breath properly. My break in routine consists of avoiding hard acceleration and running for long periods at high revs. Instead I like to accelerate moderately up the rev range (though not to red line), from time to time. I also try to vary my running speed so that the engine is not running at the same revs for extended periods of time either. Basically just take the engine through its rev range without punishing it. As the miles rack up, I gradually start being more aggressive.

I will say that a number of things were very different when I first got in the car, that it took me almost a month to get used to how the car handles, the ride, etc. I wonder if you are just going through the same stuff. anyhow, your call, let me know if you want to take mine for a spin - its a stick.

of power throughout the range with only short forays to the higher rpms. Harder and harder as you approach 1000 or 1500, but no full bore hard charging until past the break in period.
