I live in OC and work in Riverside so getting to BH is the easiest thing for me, but I may take you up on the offer later if I am unable to resolve it. Stick is no problem for me.

at 1,000 rpm the S5 manual is at around 23 miles per hour in 6th gear.
At 80 mph, the A8 is exactly 1,000 rpm lower than the S5.

In 6th. gear at 70 mph with the Tip. the engine is running at roughly 2200 rpm. I would not want it running any lower than that so i think the mileage is as good as can be expected with this type of car.

I also come down to corona del mar every other week or so. its a really great car, give it some time and you will fall in love with it. check the shipping blocks in the springs.
