Why is a loaded new A5 more than a loaded BMW 335i coupe?

so actually the car is priced right.
The only way the A5 will be more than the 328xi is if you opt for the S-Line package.
I priced a 328xi vs an A5 both stick shift.
The A5 comes standard with 18" wheels vs 17" wheels for the 328xi.
328xi is priced as follow:
Leather ($1,450, standard on A5!)
Active steering (standard on A5)
Park distance (A5 also offers back up camera)
Premium Package, Cold weather package, comfort package, navigation, premium hi-fi, Sirius radio (standard on A5!), ipod, sport package (only way to get 18'' wheels on 328xi).
M.S.R.P: $47,870 (or $1,000 less if you don't get the sport package)
A5 3.2 Quattro with
Premium Package, Technology package, B&O sound system, Navigation
M.S.R.P: $47,465 ($48,055 if you add the Service plan).
So as you can see it is more against the 328 than the 335 (priced at $51,320 with the same equipment as the 328xi)

remember we are audi drivers, we are arrogant but not elitist. He knoweth not what he says, and we should exalt him for coming to us for help in understanding the error of his ways. Not belittling him. Let the Audi A5 and S5 speak for themselves, he will make the right decision for him, we do not need to tell him to go away.

If I wanted Toyota Solara-like performance, I'd just get a Toyota Solara and save about $15K. I doubt that the standard A5 will create the same kind of excitment that the 335 did.

That hardly sounds fair. The only way that Audi seems to be able to compete against BMW, is to put more expensive Audis up against cheaper BMWs. Sad.

you'd have to compare an S5 to that car cost-wise. a 335d is a diesel version of a larger engine than the S5's.
audi does have a 3.0 V6 TDI but not in the states.
and i am sure your comparison of the A5 to the solara was a joke.

Wow I never intended to insert the thorn into Audi fans-
Like I said before, Audi makes great cars on par with BMW, Mercedes and such. I like Audi interior and fit and finish better than all except for Lexus.
To tell the truth, status means little to me. I wanted to just state that according to the Luxury Institute which polls the wealthiest Americans with incomes over 200k, the Mercedes, Porsche and BMW came in tops for luxury and sport cars. Audi did not even place.
Now back to the debate- I am leaning toward the new Audi S5- it has best overall interior, is fast and costs less than the new BMW M3 or Porsche Cayman S.
What I will do is buy a 1-2 used one in a few years and save 20k off the price since Audis drop like a rock in value and would prefer to let someone else take the depreciation hit.
As far as dating goes, I drive a BMW 3 series right now and it does not score me hot babes. Maybe if I was driving a 200k Lamborghini or Ferrari it might. Audi and Lamborghini and Bugatti are in the same family as is Porsche so I know that Audi makes a great performance car albeit an expensive one without the bling factor.

Geez dude dial back the caffeine.
Folks like you do nothing to bring new converts to the Audi family. You need to take a chill pill
I just wanted to discuss and make some points- dont get so easily offended.
Audi makes great cars- they stand on the own.
Tell me one thing- why do Audi cars drop in value more than other luxury marques?
Second, why is Audi rated near dead last in reliability by JD Powers whereas Lexus and BMW are rated well?

Agreed- and I do like Audis, I never once said that they were lame cars.
Overpriced like BMW and VW and Mercedes and Lexus but still great cars.
If I need a bargain performance sedan, the Suburu WRX STi, Mitsubishi Evo and MazdaSpeed offer a lower cost vehicle with close performance to Audi and BMW.
Healthy discourse is important!
