As to the RS5 not having that crappy Auto Start / Stop “setting” — the RS5 is a real niche market car and, a such, it doesn’t hurt the overall Audi CARB ratings enough to require it. It’s also a great way to upsell anyone who knows the S5 has the Auto Start / Stop and the RS5 doesn’t and is on the fence as far as which model to buy.
If I had done more research before buying the S5 I might have gone with the RS5 instead!
If you find a way, Please Post it up.

Not having access to all the parameters and their actual functionality in relationship to the ECU's, I'm not sure the D / S mode is possible via a VAG / OBD11 change. I haven't verified it yet, but I'm quite certain the eventual 'second pull' of the shifter putting the car into S eventually is a drive-train CAN-BUS code (probably Lin-bus, to can-bus module, then drivetrain can-bus to ECU.). I haven't had the opportunity to sniff that code (or the auto start/stop code) yet, but it is somewhere near the bottom on my list of things to do. Once that information is known, a simple Arduino with Can-Bus (or similar mini controller) is all that's needed to setup your vehicle preferences after you start the car. You can reference the following thread for a Can-Bus project I did recently:

So yes, that would be "a way", but probably more work than 99.9% of people would want to go through for the minimal results.

Sorry - I thought I’d read someplace that the RS does not have that button. The S5 In Sport will disable the Auto Start / Stop mode as well, but the minute you go into “Park” it goes into “Auto Start / Stop”

Guessing the European models of the RS are equipped with Auto Start Stop.

I wonder if you can buy the RS5 accelerometer and if there a place to plug it in on an S5? Also, you can turn on the display with OBD Eleven, but would it work if you could just plug the accelerometer in?

i don’t know why people have an issue with it to be honest. Doesn’t bother me in the slightest. Especially when you can just quickly dap the accelerator to cancel it.
