1000 mile oil change?

I read in another post that there is a crankcase additive put in at the factory that helps the engine during break-in period. If this is true, I could see where changing the oil at 1000 could actually not be a good idea. Personally I'm thinking about doing it at 5000.

Follow the service schedule in the manual. Germans are notoriously efficient and did not waste pages & ink printing it in there just for sh*ts and giggles.

I just asked the service tech and manager about this, they both said to get it changed at 10k miles. I'll go with their recommendations, they have no reason to lie or not try to up sell.

You must be old like me. ;-P The old tradition of changing oil and filter on new filter is from the days where manufacturing standard are not as precise and there probably would be more metal particulate wearing off during the first 1000 miles. Nowadays, with CAD and much better milling and casting technologies, Don't think it will be a factor anymore.
