2018 S5 power top

Ok, I figured it out, I think. The fob I was using, a genuine Audi fob with the S5 logo had a chrome lock and unlock button with a black trunk button. I switched to the other fob which has all three buttons chrome and it opened and closed the top as designed. Aside from being a second fob is the one with the black button a "valet" fob that limits some functionality? It works normally with keyless entry as well.
Master key on the left, 2nd driver key on the right

The backs of mine look like that as well. Does the front of the one without the chrome have a black trunk release button and the one with the chrome have a chrome trunk release button? On mine, the one with the black back (also has black trunk release button) does not open/close the top.

This is the front of the 2nd driver key that is “buried” in the car for the remote start function.

Slowly double press and hold the unlock button on your remote, while you are close to the vehicle, and the windows will roll down and then the top will retract. Can you post a video so we can see exactly what is (or isn't) happening?

And if it works with one key and not the other key, use the key where it doesn't work to start the vehicle, then go into the central locking settings and ensure that convenience open is checked.

I can confirm mine works great now that I press once hold once (two presses). I was always trying 3 with very limited success...

I never knew that there were different keys. I’m using what you described as the second driver key, and always have. Am I missing out on some functionality by not using the “master“ key?

There is no difference in functionality. And anymore the newer cars come with the same design for both keys.
