You get (5) updates in a “use ‘em or lose ‘em” period of 2.5 years from the vehicles purchase date. As to how you get those 5, Audi just changed the rules in the last few months. After that 2.5 year period you have to pay a dealer to get / install them. No idea of the price but it’s Audi so I’m sure it’s not cheap!

Hi - I have an early 2017 Q7 and downloaded the 2020 maps late March onto SD card but my MMI does not recognize the files. Somebody suggested to check this thread if anybody have the 2019/2020 map files and could share them - supposedly they are recognizable by 2017 Q7s. Thanks in advance.

You only get free updates for the first 2.5 years: the first 5 updates released after your car was built and it's use them or lose them. Your free period has ended.

I have files downloaded in Dec 2019. Not sure if they're not considered 2020. Let me know if you want those.

Thanks @MH62 yes I noticed in-MMI update does not work anymore. I last updated my local NewEngland region early 2019 (says 2018/2019( but rest of US/CDN is 2016/2017 maps. It would be awesome if you could share your Dec 2019 files - maybe vie OneDrive or Dropbox?

Thanks in advance.

Sure, PM me the details of where you would want me to upload it and I'll give it a try. It's 11GB.

A few weeks ago, a new update became available that can be initiated over the air inside the vehicle. As before, you can only download 3 regions and not the entire database. So I contact Audi Care as so many have mentioned, expecting to get an SD card sent to me but they told me "no" they don't do that and so I'm SOL. I complained since my vehicle is barely 18 months old and I requested this be escalated for a better resolution. They opened a case for me and said it would be 7-10 days for a reply. This coming Tuesday will be the 10th business day and so far, no further communications.

Yes, as Nikon1 stated, please let us know. I was explicity told they would send a card if requested. Also interesting that I haven't seen an available update. I will have to look again today.

When I called for an SD card last month, I was told that it would not be possible to fulfill until after Labor Day, as their offices were closed until then and everyone was working remotely. I didn't argue because that describes my current work environment.

Thanks in advance.
Assuming your older files are still from the factory build, the release pattern goes like this:

2016/2017, factory build late 2016
2017, first upgrade available to you in early 2017
2017/2018, your 2nd upgrade released late 2017
2018
2018/2019
2019, your 5th and last upgrade available released early 2019
2019/2020, released lated 2019 won't work

Based on the initial assumption, you need to find the set of files released in early 2019. I think you can also pay $$$ to get the latest from your local dealer.
