Why pay a dealer to do this?

Yuck. A charge for updating maps? That is really sh*tty. I use Android Auto anyways, so this barely affects me.

I think it is fair that they are offering the end user to do it for free in three different ways: (1) SD card, (2) USB, (3) OTA through Audi Connect.

You are paying for the labor for a tech to do something that is already free taking time away from other services. Other manufacturers would charge you an arm and a leg to even update the map to the latest version.

If I download the files to a USB stick, can I then plug the stick into the USB port in the vehicle to update the maps? Do I still select SD1 or does it give me the option to select USB?

That is correct, you will select USB. I don't think it will even allow you to select SD if nothing is in the slot, but my memory is a bit faded. Either way, it is immediately recognizable to the car.

Wait until the 5 free upgrades have been delivered and updates then come through the dealer! No one has posted this charge, yet, but I remember reading on another thread / forum — it’s NOT cheap.

The update for my 2019 A5 says "2020" not "2019/2020" - "Digital road map North America ( Mexico, Canada, USA ) Version 2020" its 10.5 GB

The update for my 2019 Q3 says "Digital road map North America ( Mexico, Canada , USA ) Version 2019/2020" and is 23.3 GB in size.

Is there a difference from the 2019/2020? What are other people seeing.

Ha... looks like we will have to update the thread title and I have to go update my car. I just updated it two weeks ago, too.

Doh! I just updated to the 2019/2020 update last night. They better not count this newer 2020 update against our 5 free updates since the 2019/2020 was just released few weeks ago it sounds like.

I did download the "2020 Update" and did a byte comparison on the "metainfo2.txt" file and the contents & signatures are identical. But in looking at some of the files within MIB1 & MIB2 - there are significant hex differences. Just to be safe, I'm loading the 2020 update into my MMI.
