Like I said in that thread Map versions and updates are not even specific to Audi. So if you have access to any of the VW brand map updates they will work in your Audi. The maps themselves are not VIN or variant specific. So they aren't linked to any particular car. So feel free to share the updates, you aren't doing anything illegal there.
Its the car that decides if it will accept a map update or not. And in changing that behaviour, you are beginning to end the grey area, depending on how you amend things. The correct and proper way, is to buy a map update extension from the dealer. This involves the dealer uploading a correctly signed FEC code to you car that then allows the car to accept another x map updates.

What does this cost?

Nope that is not what I said. You can buy just a single map update from a dealer too. But the process is exactly the same if you buy a few. Hence why I said x. x can take any value from 1 to FF (lifetime)

I often grab the UK files from the VW online portal for Germany. They tend to be released in advance of the Audi ones and certainly before the Audi Connect portal has them published. Might be worth looking around for the US version of the VW maps portal.

I cannot see any reason why we can't help our community better. One person downloads the map package from Audi and then shares that download somewhere for the rest of the community. I don't see why everyone has to go through the same pain of Java slowdowns etc etc. Like I've said before, sharing the map package is not illegal because the maps aren't user/VIN/year or even VW brand linked.

Does anyone know for sure what version of MIB is in my 2020 Q5-e PHEV ? (it is only 6 months old).
It's non-touch, with a ****, 2-4 toggle-switches, and a separate touch-pad ( for graffiti ).
