Once you've reached the the 2.5 years of updates for maps based on car manufacture date that's it. The options for updating after that, are pay for an update from the dealer or apply the free FEC patches mentioned in this thread. Don't know if that gives unlimited updates moving forward or just takes you to whatever the date the FEC is associated with. Someone who has applied one or more FEC updates can confirm how many map updates they been able have to get after application.

Think of them as somewhat similar to a software product key that lets a particular version of software code to operate. The MMI comes from the factory with info that defines the newest map that will work on that unit. Feature Enablement Codes (FEC) patches modify the embedded info to allow versions of maps newer than the initial limit imposed by Audi.

So basically I'd need to modify my 2019 S5 MMI to trick it into thinking it's able to accept need map versions but I'd need to find a download of the latest version of maps and update it?
I'll tap into the link a bit later but how risky is this? Can you brick the MMI?
Cheers.

MIB-Wiki, I give you credit for taking the time to post this information. You couldn’t have made it any easier, but I’m still to chicken to try it…….lol.

@NJS5: Start with just installing M.I.B and getting the backup
. This can not break anything on the unit.
Should give you a feeling for using M.I.B in GEM.
Patching is easy, Connect external charger, start patch process and stay calm for ~10 minutes (and do not disconnect the battery )

Hey all -
Curious if @MIB-Wiki or another expert could answer a few questions for me![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
2018 US Q5 current software is:
MHI2Q_US_AUG22_P4246
My main goal is to just patch the FEC for new maps. Have done soooo much research that now I feel like I am info overload lol.
Does the firmware patch have to be done? According to the .pdf guide it is the first step. But mentioned B&O and needing a new metainfo2.txt or using user defined mode. And is this actually needed? It appears for Bose it is, but do see posts from other users that just upgraded firmware that B&O was ok to do. I downloaded MHI2Q_US_AUG22_P5087_MU1316 (A4-A5-Q5-Q7).7z which is a newer firmware.
Do I actually have to update the firmware? Is there an actual benefit? I do see a patch for my firmware/software in the separately patch folder, so would I just copy that file over to M.I.B?
Thank you![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
