A4/A5 Dashboard replacement speakers set for ASS (Audi Sound System) or EU Base Stere
#21
I have a 2017 A4 and I thought my amp was underpowered and turns out my car doesnt have an amp. I called audi parts gave them the VIN of my car and they said the car did not come with an amp. Can that be possible? I have the base model

Yes it is absolutely possible that your car has no amplifier. Depending where in the world you are based you either have the Base Stereo version or the Audi Sound System. Both those use the HU to drive all the speakers directly.

This SSP shows some of the various versions of the audio systems in the B9 Infotainment;> Audi SSP 647
The SSP 647 document (40 page) can be found here: https://procarmanuals.com/vag-ssp-64...-audi-connect/
Similar document with only 28 pages from NHSTA, e-ssp 970663: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...18335-9999.pdf
There are at least 4 version of the basic MMI infotainment systems & all of 4 them have 3 options of audio output;
.....Basic Sound System -8RM (4 channel, speakers driven from Head unit 4 x 20W in J794)
.....Audi Sound System -9VD (6 channel, speakers driven from Head unit 180W in J794)
.....B&O Sound System -9VS (16 channel, speakers driven from digital amplifier 700W in J525)
Here is one of the 4 MMI infotainment examples:
The Avant configuration is closest to the Sportback layout.

Adding a higher power amplifier (in the trunk) to the Basic Sound System should be pretty simple.

I thought either I dont have a subwoofer or it is not working in the rear deck because i dont hear it and the entire system lacks bass. THen i thought hey I may have the standard system with no subwoofer but I am pretty sure I have the center dash speaker so that would mean I have the Audi Sound System.. I have to do more investigating. Very confusing. Why would they have 3 tier sound systems? Was it an option?

You could also download the Bink Audio Test warbles to hear the split between the subwoofer & door woofers: Bink Audio Test Warbles
Crank up the volume & it will show vibration locations & resonances in the vehicle also.
They can be played through bluetooth on your phone to the Audi stereo or from an SD flash drive.
From the original Binks explanation:
" LF Warbles. These up-and-down sweeps are for confirming your subwoofers’ smooth transition to your LF drivers. Pick the warble which is centered closest to your subwoofer crossover point. Playing this track will help you hear things like bandpasses out-of-polarity, SPL gaps between bandpasses, SPL peaks from overlapping bandpasses (very common) and room response quirks. Check to see if there is a sense of motion (a seeming change in location) from low to high and back as the sound shifts from sub to LF. You are looking for a solid wall of warble, not shifting localization."
The Binks warble download was made available again from here, Michael Bink Knowles: https://www.merlijnvanveen.nl/en/stu...o-test-warbles

Another Faital Pro 4FE32 added.
After viewing Bruce's excellent photos on how to remove the center dash grill it was almost embarrassing how easily it popped out.
I had a much more difficult time getting the corner grills out.
Sound is great!
Faital in. No problems. I assume the foam disc is where the tweeter is located in the B&O.
