Default Brake squeal

It's been cold here in MD the past couple days. I mean, SUPER cold. I've noticed my rear brakes squealing fairly loudly as I drive. Anyone else having issues? I have 460 miles on the car.

I do not own a B9 series car but I do own a B8.5 S5. Brakes never emitted a squeak ever since I owned it until the last few days when the temps dropped near freezing. But, it seems to go away when it warms up (i.e. after applying the brakes) but comes back when the brakes have gotten cold again (i.e. after a long drive with very little use of brakes).

I do think that the brakes squeal due to the cold temps.

Ever since it turned into siberia around here, my brakes squeal a bit until warm. if I dont brake for a while the squeal again. It's definitely normal, although undesirable.

Many other models have this problem too, I remember big threads about this problem on AZ back when I had a B8 S4.

My 2013 A5 and now my new 2018 S5 seem to get squeaky breaks when it's cold out (it mostly goes away after the car is warm).

The A5 was much much worse.

Thank you! It does seem to go away once things warm up. Thankfully, not something that needs to go in for service.

Mine are squealing like crazy too. Was hoping it would go away after a few miles on the pads but nope.

Is it sand and gravel in the brake pads causing the noise from living in colder, snowy areas of the country?

I’m on summer tires still. I don’t take it out on the roads if it gets cold or super snowy.
