Default car alarm went off unexpectedly

So, last night, my fiance' and i were out and I went to open her door for her, (with the key in my pocket) and the alarm went off on us! I wasn't right in front of the door, as she was beside me, and i leaned over to grab the handle to open it. I was surprised it went off. I shut it off after grabbing the fob, but I'll have to be more cognizant in the future of how I grab the door handle I guess.... Anyone else have the alarm go off like this on them?

It's actually a rather nice sounding alarm, as alarms go.

Grab the door only on the inside of the handle you might have touch the outside and started the lock sequence then open the door thus triggering the alarm.

I've had someone come in at work and tell me my alarm was going off. Twice. I'm too far for the fob to work and I doubt someone was breaking in. Who knows.

Thanks for confirming, that's what I figured it was, I was more off to one side of the handle, when i grabbed it, and opened it.

Hmm. Maybe a similar experience, or maybe not.

Today I'm in the garage washing the car with rinseless wash and the car keeps locking and unlocking. The fob was in my pocket and I figured the buttons were getting pushed by accident, so I took it out and put it down (in the garage). Lock/unlock kept happening, with an alarm thrown in for good measure. I took the fob into the house, back into the kitchen. Same thing, including another alarm.

Anyone have any ideas what is causing this or how to stop it?

Not sure what how the alarm part works, but the locking / unlocking was likely due to a door handle being fooled (triggered) on the lock and unlock handle sensors. Put your keys inside the vehicle vs. inside the house and that will stop the locking / alarm issues, as the car won't (shouldn't) lock with the keys inside.

I've only had that happened once when I was washing my locked car with the key fob inside the house. But it hasn't happened ever since I left the key fob inside the car during wash.

I've never had the alarm go off while washing the car, but did have the locks keep locking a couple times I forgot them in my pocket, so threw them onto the front seat, and that took care of that.

Thanks! I knew I had read a solution on here somewhere. I just couldn't remember, or find, it.
