Chrome is gone. I made the mistake of just using the dark green abrasive side of a 3M pad and that was enough to destroy the chrome finish. If you used steel wool, I'm sure it's a goner. Sorry man.

Thankfully I had mine ceramic coated when the car was brand new. To this day, a small spritz of Windex and a light cleaning with a cloth and they shine back up like it was day 1 again.
