Default First Audi Purchase, Looking for Advice

I just test drove the S5, and it was A LOT of fun! I was originally going to lease, but my local dealership has a used 2018 with 19k miles for 12k under sticker. With 2019s just around the corner, I'm wondering if the price/timing is right? Hoping to solicit some advice from the community.

Thank you!!!

12K under it's original sticker price -- ? meaning, for example, if the MSRP WAS $60K (then) they want $48K for it NOW?

Does it have the equipment you want? Is it the color you want?

Have you checked the normal depreciated price (with, I would guess about 4K additional miles on it?) This means, I would think 15K miles on it would be the limit of "average" -- therefore when you investigated the price, you would have to factor in "high mileage." 4K could be worth up to an additional $2K off -- and at least $1K.

Do you really like this one?

I have no idea if the price of the car is correct. You can find out -- and if you haven't offered them MORE OFF MSRP, well that's good news, because there probably is MORE off buried in there.

If this came with the OEM Summer Only tires, and it has 19K miles on it, I would assume they've already put new tires on it.

Is it CPO'd? (this is a pretty big one, because, if it is, the warranty goes to 100K.)

If the VIN decoder you linked to is correct, the price on cargurus is NOT a good deal. Even carguru listing says it's overpriced.

I've never used the decoder you linked to. This one will give you the actual window sticker, but the site is frequently down (it is right now)

There are very good deals currently available for the new 2018 S5 coupes. Close to $4000 in incentives, complementary first month payment and at least 8% off msrp based on where you live and how competitive your local market is. So you can get an slightly les expensive new S5 for the same price as this one.

Hop on some used car websites (car gurus, cars.com, etc) and see what similar models are selling for in a 250 mile radius with similar options and miles. Keep in mind that some might be certified preowned while others are not (5 year/unlimited mileage warranty). That is how you determine what the market is for your region and if they are asking a fair price. You can try to use market values from websites, but cars.com might say it is below market while cargurus says above market while KBB says it is on the money, so I would take anything the websites say with a grain of salt.

As for the price itself, you can try to negotiate but if this is the lowest priced example for equipment and miles, most dealers will not discount or will offer minimal discounts.

That's a rough year or less for a car hitting ~20k miles

The car is guaranteed to be a high mileage car for its age when you sell it unless you really cut the miles down.

My gut-o-meter tells me that this car is overpriced...especially with those miles. That's a TON of miles for a 2018. As noted above, you'd not be far off from a NEW car at that price, factoring incentives and what you can haggle the price down to. Do you want to drive a 19,000 mile car off the lot to save maybe 4-5,000?

I'd recommend you do an autotrader search for another new 2018 that you favor, and then contact the dealer's Internet sales person to get their "best price". I bet you'll be closer than you think.

Depending on your car shopping/negotiation skills, you can probably get a new S5 with similar options for about $5000 more.

Too many miles. We bought a 2018 A5 with 2500 miles for more than $12k off sticker. Granted it was an A5, not an S5, but I would think there is more profit margin in a S5, plus there is more depreciation with that many miles.
